ETERNAL FLAME

The sun has gone but the air remembers it. A band of amber holds the horizon — a flame held without fuel, the last warmth of the day pressed into the sky. Above, the cool grey of arriving night. Below, a sea so still it returns the colour.

The bands are real. Vis rises steeply from the Adriatic, and from its western heights you look down through the air rather than across it. On still evenings the atmosphere settles into layers — cool sea mist held beneath warmer air, what meteorologists call a temperature inversion — and each layer carries its own haze and takes its own colour from the departing sun. The dark band at the horizon is the empty space towards Italy: a hundred kilometres of open sea with no land to light it. Nothing here has been smoothed or invented. This is what the sky over Vis looked like, for about ninety seconds, before it went.

Produced as a signed, numbered limited edition giclée print on Canson Rag Photographique 310gsm 100% cotton archival paper, printed under the artist’s supervision. Each impression bears a fine border, the artist’s hand-signature and unique number. The edition is strictly limited to fifty across three formats — A2, A1, A0 — plus two artist’s proofs issued at the artist’s discretion. Once the run is complete, no further prints will be made.
