Ziggy played for time, jiving us that we were Voodoo
The kids was just crass,
He was the naz
With God given ass
He took it all too far
But boy could he play guitar...

Not to mention could David Bowie write a mean song! I have been wiling away this Queen's birthday long weekend by cranking up the tunes and fondly remembering all my Bowie inspired air guitars and karaokes I thought I ruled at but probably completely drunkenly butchered at the time, his androgynous features and out there costumes and the incredible DAVID BOWIE IS exhibition at the V&A in London last year where I got lost for hours in every little detail of his life. I think everyone always references David's early bisexuality and drug taking as defining  him but I always felt these were a phase in a creatively rich life of someone incredibly thirsty for the new because he was always, from the very beginning just a bit different - smart and well read and incredibly dedicated with a completely different spiritual compass to the society he was born into - a contrarian as well as a visionary. What I found most fascinating about David was that he did these visualization drawings even when young ; he'd draw a music video from conception to finish, or draw himself in situations that he wanted to experience and guess what? He ultimately made  his drawings come to life - perhaps proving to himself the Law of Attraction.

Metallics have been ruling the runways the last few seasons as different trends emerged : the 80s, the disco era, futurism etc but my love of metallics has never been about trends as much as simply about the feel of the fabrics , the way they reflect  light and the sheer variations of texture and sheen they can deliver.  Here are some of my favorite metallic pieces I'm in love with now and how I wear them...not so much Ziggy but all metallic goodness and a touch of rock n' roll none the less.

Metallic SP

Metallics are slithering into this season and I have been keeping my magpie eyes on some of my favourite pieces. Feeling like Gollum before the Ring That Rules Them All, these shimmering pieces make me want to scream : My precious! What is it about metallics that bring about this hysteria? To me , it is evoking a feeling of a bygone era of shiny luxury ; imagining cutting the dancefloor carelessly at studio 54 in gold lamé, bitch fights on Dynasty and 90s supermodels in Versace. It is the way they make anything else worn with it more exciting, be that a plain white t-shirt or an otherwise black outfit. No wonder designers still haven't tired of it! Here are the pieces on my wishlist now...

1. Alexander Wang Sweatshirt
2. Altuzarra skirt
3. Gianvito Rossi flats
4. Dion Lee skirt
5. Michael Van Der Ham skirt
6. Versace necklace
7. Givenchy slides
8. Valentino clutch
9. Gianvito Rossi mules
10.Gianvito Rossi sandals
11.Topshop skirt
12. Givenchy sandals
13. Saint Laurent dress

Animal prints again reign supreme this season, as they have for the last few years. By transcending the bad ( but sometimes fun ) fabrics of the 80s and 90s , this trend has avoided it's mistakes and stuck to key silhouettes in which it always works -  a little vintage inspired but finished in a far superior way. In the same way that nature's fauna never goes out of fashion , this trend will also never die. Designers may tire of it for a season or two but rest assured your investments will stay relevant for the rest of your life. Leopard print has become a staple in my wardrobe and I treat it as I would a neutral - paired with a black or white t-shirt or some simple pumps , it becomes an interesting pop for an otherwise bland outfit. Being a bit of a magpie, I do like leopard on leopard with a lot of gold jewellery to offset the look  - but then again I do feel like I missed the 80s and I'm forever trying to make up for it! Here are some things high on my wishlist at the moment...Swoon!
