WHY YOU NEED A WHITE SHIRT NOW

When I turned 13 years old, my mother was diagnosed with cancer of the uterus. It was an incredibly terryfing and intense experience for our family and we spent the next few years in absolute trepidation of death taking her away from us. To imagine life without my mum was unconcievable, impossible and petrifying. I spent my nights bargaining with invisible forces, begging them to spare her life. This may sound strange but she was one of the lucky ones – the cancer was diagnosed early and she was treated swiftly – she survived and thrived and I am so incredibly grateful that she is still in my life today.

1488 women will not be this lucky this year, for unlike uterian cancer, ovarian cancer is a much more mysterious and insidious disease -there is no early detection test. Three Australian women are diagnosed every day, out of these 75% are diagnosed at an advanced stage when the cancer has spread and is difficult to treat sucessfully. Currenty, only 43% of women survive ovarian cancer, but if treated early, 80% of women will survive this disease.

I feel honoured to support the Witchery white shirt campaign this year and help in some small way with this important cause. Every woman needs a white shirt in her life and each year Witchery produces some beautiful shirts in different cuts and fabrics – there truly is a shirt for everyone’s taste and the best part is that 100% of the proceeds go toward the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. Pick your favourite shirt and support a great cause in one go- easy!

Editing these pictures has taken me nearly a month to do- there were so many visceral moments to remember while looking through the files that I would find myself procrastinating and daydreaming; memories of eating ice cream in wet bathers, running barefoot around little cobblestone streets of "my" little island, the intense heatwave, bargaining for […]
TOUGH LUXE- how to wear grunge/punk in a wearable way
October 16, 2013
My teen years were so heavily influenced by grunge for a while that I felt Dr Martins were synonyms for footwear, ripped fishnet stockings were normal and tartan shirts , well , I kinda lived in them - day or night. This season Saint Laurent made a return to grunge, but the fabrics Heidi Slimane […]
3 summer dresses you need now
October 31, 2017
One of the best things about summer is being able to wear dresses. As a tomboy, I missed out on the joys of frocks as a kid, so doggedly determined was I that they were the foul epitome of ponce and oppression.  Yet once I found myself in the late 20s all I wanted was […]
